Prof. Dr. Werner Winiwarter is Head of the Data Analysis and Computational Systems Group and Vice Head of the Department of Scientific Computing. He received  an MS degree in 1990, an MA degree in 1992, and a PhD degree in 1995, all from the University of Vienna. From Autumn 1995 until Autumn 1997 Prof. Winiwarter was a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Information Science, Kyoto University. From Spring 2000 until Summer 2001 he was Guest Professor at the Research Institute  for Symbolic Computation, Johannes Kepler University of Linz, and Scientific Director of the Software Competence Center Hagenberg. From Summer 2001 until Spring 2002 Prof. Winiwarter was Scientific CEO of the Electronic Commerce Competence Center. His main research interest is human language  technology. In addition, Prof. Winiwarter also works on data mining and machine learning, Semantic Web, information retrieval, electronic business, and education systems.
