The Research Lab Computational Technologies and Applications (CTA) is part of the Faculty of Computer Science (Fakultät für Informatik) of the University of Vienna, Austria. It was established in 2005.
The Research Lab CTA is run as a joint effort between several research groups in the Faculty of Computer Science. It pools research activities across and promotes synergetic effects between the three departments of the Faculty of Computer Science. This horizontal integration of expertise present across the departments of the Faculty is intended to (i) strengthen the activities of the Faculty in the area of computational technologies, and to (ii) strengthen the research interaction of the Faculty with other disciplines, including (but not limited to) the context of computational science research (as, for example, defined in a PITAC report).
A particular focus is on methodology for mapping of algorithms and software onto hardware, and on technology for distributed and grid computing. Moreover, the Research Lab CTA pursues multi- and interdisciplinary research efforts with other scientific disciplines at the University of Vienna, such as pharmaceutical science, chemistry or bioinformatics. Various research projects illustrate the results of these efforts.
