Welcome at the Distributed Systems Group (DS)

The research activities of the group focus on architechtures, services and applications of future Internet, including basic research in related methods and tools. We are involved in several national and international projects (in alphabetical order):

 Austrian Grid

  Austrian Grid
The AUSTRIAN GRID consortium combines Austria's leading researchers in advanced computing technologies with well-recognized partners in grid-dependent application areas. The goal of the AUSTRIAN GRID is to start and support grid computing in Austria in general, and to provide coordination and collaboration between research areas interested in grid computing. The department investigates in particular the integration of mobile devices into grids, forming mobile grids. More information can be found here.

CAMYM: Context-Aware Mobility in Wireless Mesh Networks

CAMYM: Context-Aware Mobility in Wireless Mesh Networks
Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) build wireless connected networks for broadband home networks, community and neighborhood networks, or enterprise networks. Mesh clients are usually mobile and require mobility management techniques, e.g., to use VoIP services. Mobility management is more difficult for mesh networks due to the apparent chaotic deployment of mehs routers and the heterogeneity of the wireless cells.
In this Euro-NF joint specific research project we will include context-awareness (and context prediction) to enhance and optimize mobility management. More information on Euro-NF can be found here.

 Euro-NF Network of Excellence   Euro-NF
Euro-NF is a Network of Excellence on the Network of the Future, formed by 35 institutions from 16 countries. Its main target is to integrate the research effort of the partners to be a source of innovation and a think tank on possible scientific, technological and socio-economic trajectories towards the network of the future. More details are given here.

 Softnet Austria Competence Network

  Softnet Austria Competence Network
Softnet Austria is a private research association cooperating with business and university partners to conduct and promote applied research in software engineering. Softnet Austria deliberately operates as an intermediary between research institutions and companies. The network is targeted on quality assurance and improvement, and at the development and deployment of novel techniques in software engineering. More information is available here.
