Renate Motschnig is Professor at the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Vienna and head of the Research Lab for Educational Technologies. Until 1996, she has repeatedly been a Visiting Professor at the Computer Science Department of the University of Toronto, Canada. In 1995/96 she was on the faculty of the Computer Science Department of the RWTH-Aachen, Germany.

Education:
Renate received her Dipl.-Ing. degree in Computer Science (Informatik) in 1982 and her Dr. techn. in Computer Science in 1988, both from the Vienna University of Technology, Austria. In 1996 she got the "venia docendi" in Practical and Applied Computer Science from the University of Vienna. In 2004 and 2005 she participated in the LaJolla Program of the Center for the Studies of the Person.

Teaching Responsibilities at the University of Vienna:
Renate Motschnig teaches and coordinates the module "Web Engineering" and the module combination (Kernfachkombination) "ICT Project Management and Organizational Development". Since 2005 she has been teaching interdisciplinary courses in the field of research methods and technology-enhanced learning.

Professional Activities:
Renate is author of more than 80 publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings in the fields of computer science, psychology, and education.
She organizes a series of lectures entitled "Computer Science in Industry" with the aim to foster cooperation and exchange between the university and economy. She is in the process of building and intensifying interdisciplinary cooperations with psychologists, educational scientists, and translational scientists in the areas of knowledge development, communication, and learning.

Current Research Goals and Interests:
Renate Motschnig's research goals center around the discovery of principles and the development of techniques and tools to improve the quality of socio-technical systems. Her current research interests include requirements engineering, web engineering, methods for systems development, technology-enhanced learning, person-centered communication and new media, organizational development, cognitive psychology, and humanistic psychology in the context of ICT. Renate is in the process of investigating the potentials of introducing the Person-Centered Approach to project management, requirements engineering, as well as teaching and learning with new media.
